The Zig-Zag Vine Lace Aibhlinn

large product photo   Quick, Easy, Gorgeous

An aibhlinn is nothing more than a tube of knitting that is 24 inches long by 28 inches arround. With a good gauge swatch, you can modify this pattern to be any size or integrate any lace pattern. This one is knitted with Caron's Simply Soft (worsted) and Size US 8 needles (24" circulars).

CO 110 st (long tail is fine) on circ US 8 needles.

Join, being careful not to twist. Place Beginning marker, then: k13, pm, k9, pm, to end. This should give you five repeats.
Work five to eight rows of garter stitch or other border pattern. End with a knit row.

Pattern (repeats five times per row):
Row 1: k13, k2tog, k4, yo, k1, yo, ssk
Row 2 (and all even rows): k to end.
Row 3: k13, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k1, ssk
Row 5: k13, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ssk
Row 7: k13, k2tog, k1, yo, k1, yo, k3, ssk
Row 9: k13, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k4, ssk
Row 11: k13, k2tog, k1, yo, k1, yo, k3, ssk
Row 13: k13, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, ssk
Row 15: k13, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k1, ssk
Row 16: k to end

Repeat rows 1 through 16 for pattern. Pattern will repeat between seven and eight times for length.

Finish with same number of garter stitch rows as begun, or same border pattern.
